OSCE / ODIHR expresses readiness to continue assistance to Uzbekistan in democratization processes
Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) Abat Fayzullayev held a videoconference meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and promising areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE / ODIHR. The readiness of the ODIHR was expressed to continue to assist the Republic of Uzbekistan in the democratization processes and reforms, in particular, in the field of ensuring human rights, the judicial system, lawmaking, improving electoral legislation, as well as developing and implementing joint programs based on mutual interest.
In turn, the ODIHR director was informed in detail about the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years in the field of human rights protection, freedom of religion and religious tolerance, the judicial and legal system, as well as ensuring the rule of law. In conclusion, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further building up interaction within the framework of the OSCE / ODIHR mandate.
